The Passing of a Legend

Jef Raskin is perhaps the one person I should thank most for my involvement in the realm of computing. After all, it was my fascination with the Macintosh at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Student Stores during the Summer of 1984 that got me hooked on the keyboard (and mouse). Since those fateful days bothering the store clerks while writing my school essays on the Macs and printing them out on those classic Apple printers, well, not much has changed I guess (‘cept the lack of a floppy drive). A grand time in the computer world, by my recollection.

I am therefore very sorry to note Jef’s passing and simply say “So long and Thanks for all the Interfaces.”

A Note On Tech Support

Tech Support is laborious & annoying. Family, friends, people at random gatherings (including weddings, airports and recently while viewing a house with a realtor), you name it. After being paid to do this for several years, I have grown to believe that most tech support should be like this.

If I actually had to deliver “Tech Support” these days, I think it would sound a lot like this: “Just keep referring to the referrer log. If you see anything bad, call me back.”

Enjoying The Gates in Central Park

Joy at The Gates

It was definitely the last chance to see “The Gates” installation, so I felt compelled to head up to New York for some impromptu sight-seeing. Random coincidence that Jay J Fadd needed to get to Hoboken, NJ for a wedding (with the reception at The Manor in West Orange. Heh.). After very little discussion, a crack driving team was assembled for the ramshackle haul up to NYC. Fun as hell and the pictures were worth it.

First tempting image I saw came from Mister Sugar.

Can we afford women teaching our children?

In these modern times, one must ask oneself “Are young women able to restrain their libidos long enough to safely teach America’s youth?” Look at this sad article, for example. 14-year-old boys in Delran, NJ. Goodness girl, at least date college age! Damn!!

Now it does not make any difference that some of these JV-courting sirens are hot. Not even if they are Jaime Pressly hot. It also doesn’t matter that the young dudes scoring with these burlesque school marms will forever be heroes to the young men of their generation. The point is simple — frisky nymphomaniacs veiled as wolves in sheeps clothing should not be molesting our young kids. At least not as their teachers and definitely not on school property. That is just asking to get yo ass sent to jail (which seems to be happening in at least a few of the cases).

This is not to imply that male teachers cannot also commit such foul behavior. Men seem to do pretty well playing the field at school, but they often get their comeuppance in due time. Still it cannot be stressed enough — now is not the time to turn your back on a female teacher. From these news reports, it appears that they will freely grope as their desires dictate. Especially high risk if she is your gym teacher. Young people need to be aware so they can protect themselves. And school administrators should do their damnest to ensure that only sexually disfunctional women whom are deficient on any attraction standards examination are employed by their schools.
