Happy Memorial Day, y’all! I think you should celebrate by buying a new (used) car!!
HOLLA!
Maybe I should stop taking pictures in Carrboro parking lots, but the availability of strange sights just increases each day.
I have no explanation for this because there are no HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes in our area. Maybe the driver just likes the company?
I love how everyone in “Crunchy Carrboro” either drives an AWD Subaru (25 MPG) or a Honda Element (23 MPG). Way to care about the environment, man! Why don’t you just drive a Hummer or a Mack truck while you’re at it??
I spotted the Element Trifecta in the Panzanella parking lot near Weaver Street.
God Bless America! And pass that barrel of oil!
This morning on my rainy drive to work I noticed a white Volvo station wagon with a pink “Breast Cancer Awareness” ribbon on the back. This is not an unusual sight — especially in these parts — but what struck me as peculiar is that the driver’s window was cracked so that the smoke from their cigarette could waft out into the rain. The irony of this person’s actions contrasted with their efforts to raise cancer awareness had me marveling long into the early afternoon.
Please help fight cancer. Please stop smoking!
PS – Happy Valentine’s Day!
Well, it has only been a week (which by internet standards is about four years), but this image and the whole Aqua Teen Hunger Force terror ad campaign debacle is too hilarious. It is really a shame that ATHF and other Adult Swim shows don’t have greater viewership, otherwise this whole unfortunate scene could have been avoided. On the other hand, I am glad that our nation’s defenses are strong and alert enough to have put down this “terror cell in our midst” and make sure that it’s perpetrators do hard time. Let this be a warning to improv comics everywhere.
Vanderlin tagged some flickr items of the one LED/IED that was captured and not destroyed.
Monday will be just another normal school day for Chapel Hill Schools. We have been experiencing some inclement winter weather recently and I guess they also had some sort of “Teacher Worday” planned. Fear not, little childrens of Chapel Hill, because school will be in session on Monday and them teachers plan on teachin’ you real good.
So, this is the last opportunity to say something for the year 2006. Last chance to lament, skewer or trivialize. Last moment to praise, investigate or champion. One last second to brag, complain or spew.
Ha ha ha, grasshoppa. No time for any of those things because the moment is too late. The new year is here and we’ve got things to do. Get off the internet and do it!!
Best wishes to you and yours in the coming year!
This is me last year wishing you a Merry Christmas this year! I was totally able to see into the future!!
I didn’t get nearly as many photo projects done this year as I had intended, so I decided to do an end-of-the-year roundup of the random images I captured with my Motorola RAZR cell phone. The camera isn’t that fantastic, but for those times when you don’t have a real camera on you, it can be fun to take some quick snaps. Enjoy!
Have a great holiday! Happy New Year!! Hope to see you all in 2007!!!
I had so much planned for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend — so many things to get done before December. Then came the sore throat, the stuffy head, the fever, the chills, the body aches and pains. So, my weekend was blown. Since Friday I’ve been huddled indoors coughing and blowing my nose. It has been a most unpleasant holiday weekend. And the whole time I’m thinking of all the stuff I haven’t been able to complete.
Sure, I’ve tried to get some things done, but I have found that is nearly impossible. My head hurts too much to get any reading done and my body is too weak to accomplish much else. It requires all of my reserve energy to take the dog out to the bathroom two or three times per day. People keep telling me to rest and drink liquids, but that isn’t much consolation when you’ve been robbed of the only legitimate 4-day weekend of the entire year.
Everytime I feel this way I bemoan the fact that with all the science, progress and innovation in the world that we are still unable to cure a simple cold. Is it a cold? Is it the flu? I don’t know and I don’t care. All I know is that I feel like crap and that no doctor on the planet can help me feel better. I used to waste the energy to seek out medical treatment for this type of thing, but after 20 odd years of trying I have given up. Medical doctors are about as helpful when you are sick as talking to a cab driver — plus you have their exorbitant fees (and the inconvenience) to put up with for them to say “There is not a lot I can do. Go home and rest.”

Regardless of how much I despise being ill, I am trying to find anything positive in the experience. One big plus from the weekend is the discovery of Mark Kozelek. While watching Steve Martin’s new film Shopgirl, I noticed this amazing touring band in many scenes called “Hot Tears.” So I went to talk to my good friend Google and discovered that this band does not even exist. I was, like, totally sad. But then I found this Kozelek guy and the bands he has been in before (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon) and was happy to know I could go buy some of his awesome songs.
I am also hoping to lose some weight while sick, since I’m eating roughly 1/3 of what I normally would in a day. That would be a major consolation prize for a week of illness. Please pray for me and send healthy vibes. Peace!
