Just a few miles east of Stovepipe Wells is the parking area for Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, which is a key attraction in Death Valley National Park. It is a few roving miles of sandy desert that is constantly alive and moving. It beckons passers-by to come closer and investigate the storybook desert oasis terrain. There are typically quite a few visitors out there, but you should be responsible for your own safety by carrying water and not walking out beyond your capacity to get back. You may also see wildlife in this area, including sidewinder rattlesnakes.
