Harmony Borax Works

Harmony Borax Works
Sign: Stabilization of the Harmony Borax Works was made possible in part by a donation from the Death Valley Forty Niners Association in 1975.

Once you have left Stovepipe Wells and Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes areas, Highway 190 goes Northeast for a bit before sharply turning downwards. As 190 starts moving Southeast you begin to head towards what most folks conceive of as “Death Valley”. After a while, you pass Beatty Junction. Even further down, you’ll pass the Death Valley History Association. And then suddenly on the right-hand side of the road you will see these old mule trains located on the site of the Harmony Borax Works. Apparently this area has not changed much in the past 100 years and you get a sense of just how remote and harsh life must have been back then. This location is just a bit north of the Furnace Creek Visitor Center and Airport.
